Over the last few years, energy and protein bites have become a staple in our house. They’re super fun to eat, SO easy to throw together and also help to keep my tummies fuller longer and energy more stable throughout the day. This is because we’re always making sure to add both protein and fibre-rich ingredients to these little snacks. Paired with some fruit, they are honestly the best thing since PB and J sandwiches (ok, even better!).

To make no-bake energy or protein balls (or bites as I prefer to call them), you simply combine oats (I like to grind them in a small blender like this one) with a nut or seed butter (or favourite is almond butter), plus either honey or maple syrup, and then add-ins like nuts, seeds, fried fruit, coconut, and chocolate chips (depending on what you prefer). Blend everything together, roll into balls, and you’ve got a stellar snack that your kids will gobble up. If you need something school-safe, switch out a nut butter for a seed or soy butter, and skip the added nuts in the ingredients.

This energy ball recipe was one that we shared in our book Food to Grow On, because it’s such as tried and true recipe. We like the coconut almond version, but you can see below that there are several fun ways to flavour these energy bites.

We hope you enjoy them as much as we do!
